I'm a certified Life Coach who supports
women through Surgery & Recovery
Hearing the words, "You need Surgery" can be a mix of excitement, fear, hope, and stress. Surgery is itself a hopeful act; we are hoping for a resolution, a change, a better outcome. However, the increase in physical and mental stress during surgery means you may require MORE support!
Surgery is not just a trauma to your physical body, but also a challenge for your mental health. Together, body and mind will need more; more support from others, more time to heal, and more safe spaces where you can relax.
As part of your health team, I offer a program that is everything I wanted for my own surgeries: One-on-One coaching for a Healing Mindset and troubleshooting, guide booklet covering topics like 'what to expect from recovery' and 'how to set up your home for relaxation and safety', 'nutrition for healing' and 'movement for a healing body' guides to aid in healing guided journal prompts to stay mindful .
Patients who work on their mental health during recovery not only feel less depression and anxiety, they also:
My coaching program supports you before, during and after surgery. If you are about to undergo a relatively minor procedure or a complicated invasive surgery, coaching support is helpful through all of the physical and mental challenges. Use the FREE consultation call to speak to me about if this program is just what you need.
If you would like support for an upcoming surgery or a past surgery, this program is for you! I offer 6 weeks ($300) or 12 weeks ($600).
This program contains:
If you love what you are learning and the support you are receiving, there is the option to renew or return to coaching as needed by the same 6 or 12 week increments.
You do not need to have a recent surgery to sign up! There are many reasons why support for a past surgery may be desired.
People often experience fear and/worry before the surgery even happens.
"Will this work for me?"
"What if something goes wrong?"
"They just made last-minutes changes, what if that was a mistake?"
"What if..."
Working on these thoughts before your surgery will have you feeling confident and ready.
Use my exhaustive guide to evaluate how much planning you might need. The more questions and problems you can work out ahead of time increases your chance of a smooth and restful recovery. I provide questions to ask your caregivers before surgery, and how to check in with them once the plan is underway.
My own #1 mistake was under-planning, underestimating my own needs and that of my caregivers.
Surgery= vulnerability, and being vulnerable can be uncomfortable. You might feel out of control, and let your mind think every 'what if' scenario until the sedation comes. Patients with high anxiety and depression report feeling higher intensity pain sensations.
By working through anxiety and depression you will feel less pain, more at ease and ready for whatever comes.
Surgery changes many of your self- identities in a few hours: able-bodied adult to needy patient, working member of the family to 'cut out' of the family, community participant to recluse shut-in (for a few weeks). These changes are intense and can feel disorientating.
Working through the journal and receiving live Life Coaching will help work through these difficulties.
Feelings of sadness, depression and catastrophic thinking are the most common negative emotions after surgery. You might grieve for your old body and what it could do, you might worry about how you will manage in your 'new body'. You might think of your future in only worst-case scenarios, where you only suffer and suffer.
I can help you stop the spiral of doom and learn how to trust your future self.
Your surgery may alter your body in a long-term way that is challenging and different like in a change of mobility.
Maybe your doctor suggests a long-term lifestyle change (quitting smoking, and/or over drinking, dietary and exercise changes) you find depressing or overwhelming.
Long term changes start at the root cause, and that is what Life Coaching is all about.
I was resting in my bed, with my newly fused bones in my foot propped up on two x-long pillows. I was miserable; I was sad, lonely, confused, agitated, and couldn't understand why I was so 'OFF'. My husband was doing his best but also struggling, I could hear him yelling at the kids to stop fighting, heating up dinner in the microwave for the third night in a row, and looking frazzled enough that I never wanted to ask him for anything.
I have had multiple surgeries before, but this was the first time I was also mom, wife, and entrepreneur. This surgery felt vastly different. My biggest mistake was underestimating what my needs would be, how much change would occur in a short time, and how it would affect my family to need bed rest for an extended period . I totally underprepared. I overestimated how much others could take on. While my surgery was executed successfully, my mental health was stressed and sad.
The dreams of what I wish I would have done differently was the conception of this program. Surgery recovery doesn't have to be miserable and confusing. I am so proud to offer everything I have learned through multiple surgeries and Life Coach training to support other women going through this experience. You can never have too much support!
